TaxonDC
The TaxonDC program (Taxon Distance Calculator) is a tool for calculating the similarity value of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of prokaryotes or ITS regions of fungi. Since version 1.3 it is possible to calculate identity percent for any protein sequences.

Important notes
- In early 2019, the algorithm for aligning 16S rRNA sequences was changed in the EzBioCloud microorganism identification tool. Therefore, the values obtained using EzBioCloud and TaxonDC may not always be the same. At the moment, we do not know the details of the new alignment algorithm.
- In the EzBioCloud database some sequences are trimmed at the ends, thus 16S rRNA sequences from EzBioCloud may be shorter than from GenBank.
- In some cases, the EzBioCloud database contains 16S rRNA sequences extracted from genomic assemblies, rather than original sequences obtained by the Sanger method. They may not always be the same.
- TaxonDC checks for updates on each start.
